The Launceston Centre is now entering its 13th year with an ever-increasing demand for the completely free services it offers. Set up in 2012 by Launceston Churches Together, the Centre, based currently in the Madford Lane Gateway Centre is relocating to larger and more appropriate premises in the Sheers Barton Barns complex at Lawhitton.
Over the past 12 years more than 800 residents in North and East Cornwall have sought specialist advice with their financial problems relating to debt, budgeting, benefit and problems related to communicating with both national and regional public organisations. The team of trained specialist volunteers have reacted to the ever changing and demanding scenarios especially during the last five years. Despite the change of address, clients will still be seen in Launceston if this is more convenient.
Looking forward CMAL knows that there are many people living in rural locations within fifteen miles of Launceston who need the help on offer. Centre Manager, Sarah Vinson said recently,
”To address this, it is now our ambition – to develop regular outreach visits to some of the more remote locations, where these communities tend to know little about the services we can provide, and public transport links are often very limited”.
All the current services remain unchanged. Only the base location will differ, principally to comply with the latest financial regulations. CMAL is licensed and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and accredited to the national Community Money Advice Organisation who has over 160 centres like CMA Launceston.
